In 1909, all eyes turned to Seattle for the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition. Oregon school children took part by submitting examples of coursework for the Oregon Education Exhibit at the fair. In 2016, volunteer Sarah King undertook a project to digitize a booklet of 7th grade writing samples that were displayed at the fair (WHC 0082.012.0001.002). The booklet had been in the library at Sprague High School, until it was donated to the Marion County Historical Society in the 1980s. The booklet offers some interesting insight into language arts at the turn of the century.
