…is now found. This money envelope (0083.043.0032) was not found in our 2010 inventory of collections because it wasn’t where it was supposed to be. Now it, and two other money bags have been located, put away correctly and had their records updated so not only can we find them again, but if anybody comes in looking for materials related to Ladd & Bush Bank, we can let them know about these!
What exactly is this? Well, from the notes in the records it appears to have served the same purpose as those canvas or plastic zipped bags used by many local businesses and banks to take deposits/withdrawals to and from the bank. This piece is basically a rectangular piece of leather, folded into three segments. This envelope came to the Marion County Historical Society from the Daue family of Salem.
