Will Myers worked at TKWM first in 1917 then again from just prior to 1930 through 1943. He ended his career as a Head Dryer.
Willard M Myers was born in East Salem on 5 Dec 1874 to Joseph and Mary E Myers. He was the youngest of 10 children. Five of his older siblings were born in Wisconsin, the last in 1860. The family then moved to Oregon where four other siblings were born. By 1880 the family was in East Salem where Will’s father was a farm laborer and teamster.
In 1896, when he was 22, Will worked as a planer for Ira Erb, and lived in a boarding house on Front St. In Salem, OR. By 1900, he had moved to Dry Fork, Morrow County in Eastern Oregon with his two brothers, Eugene and Ernest. All three worked as teamsters. Morrow County in Eastern Oregon is where Will met and married Daisy Eastborn on 17 Oct 1900. Soon after the wedding, they moved back to the Salem area and settled in Aumsville. The couple would have five children: Harriet, Walter, Thelma, Wilber, and Lloyd.
Will was a teamster in Aumsville most this time, first driving a creamery route then running his own livery business with a partner named Simpson. By 1915, Will took up some extra work for a short time as a helper at TKWM. With the arrival of the automobile, the livery business suffered. However, it was not until 1930 that Will returned to TKWM again as a helper then as a dryer. Daisy also worked as specker and finisher at the mill. They lived at 850 Norway St in Salem.
Daisy left TKWM in about 1939 and passed away on 25 Jul 1943. Willard retired from TKWM in 1944, shortly before his death on 4 Dec 1944. The couple is buried in Aumsville Cemetery in Aumsville, OR. |
