Story  Dora Phernetton worked at TKWM from 1907-1940. Primarily as a Weaver. Four of her siblings also worked at the Mill, Pearl, Clyde, Edward and Josie. 

Dorothy Emma Phernetton was born 23 Apr 1887 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Edward and Emma [George] Phernetton. She was one of five children born to the couple. She attended school in Hot Springs, SD until her family moved to Price, Linn County, OR in 1899. In May 1902, Father Edward deserted his family. The Marion County 1905 Census lists the family in Salem, OR with Dora’s sister Pearl as the head of household. Mother Emma and the children all lived together at 1413 Bellevue St. The three oldest children, Pearl, Dora, and Clyde took work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill to support their family. Edward and Josie would eventually join them.  

Dora never married. She continued to live with and provide for her mother after her siblings married and/or left for military service and other mill job opportunities. They moved to 1563 Bellevue St. and continued to live there after her mother’s death in 1939. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was employed for many years by the Kay Woolen Mill. In 1955 she had a stroke and was confined to a nursing home in Silverton. She died 16 Dec 1960 and was buried in City View Cemetery in Salem, OR.
