Rose Raveaux worked as a weaver at the TKWM in early 1900 and again in the 1920s. Her siblings Mary, Louis and Paul also worked at the mill.
Rose Raveaux was born 19 Aug 1876 in Paris, France. She was the eldest child of Leopold and Mary Ann [Laurence] Raveaux. She emigrated to the U.S. at the age of twelve with her family. They settled first in White Lake, South Dakota. Then came to Salem, OR in the late 1880s. After her family arrived in Salem, she worked as a domestic servant before working at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. She met her future husband at the Mill.
Rose married John G. Fisher, a fellow weaver on 1 Jan 1902 in Salem, OR. They lived at 524 N 15th St. In Salem. The couple had two children: Lawrence and Leona. Rose left the Mill at this time to take care of her household and raise her children. She returned around 1920 once the children were in high school. Husband John worked for the mill until his retirement, though not consistently. He took several breaks to explore other occupations such as plumbing, nursery work, and auto mechanics.
Rose died of congestive heart failure on 18 Oct 1958 in Salem General Hospital where she had been admitted following an accident at home where she broke her leg. She was buried in City View Cemetery. |
