Marion Oscar Comstock worked as a weaver at TKWM from 1918-1940, with other family members.
Marion Oscar Comstock was born 7 Feb 1882 in Wayne County, Iowa to Edward L. and Minnie [Burk] Comstock. He spent his early years in Iowa then moved to Salem, Oregon with his family by 1900. He married Bertha Elizabeth Gilbert in 1904 and moved to Kansas where two daughters were born. By 1918 the family returned to Salem.
In 1918, Marion registered for the World War I draft. His draft card described him as short, medium build with grey eyes and dark brown hair. He worked as a weaver at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill along with other family members. Two additional children were born to the family during this period.
Marion’s first wife, Bertha passed away on 8 Feb 1928 at Salem Hospital following a uterine hemorrhage. She was 48 years old. Marion later married Faye A. Dearinger on 22 Aug 1931 in Tacoma Washington.
Marion retired from his work at the woolen mill in 1940. Then on 31 July 1941 he suffered a heart attack while working on his car in the garage at his residence on 17th St. in Salem. Despite the quick arrival of the first aid car, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 59 years old. Marion was buried in City View Cemetery in Salem. |
