On 23 April 1929, Raymond married Mary Loretta Harris at St. Boniface Church in Sublimity. The wedding was followed by a dinner at his father’s home. The couple had seven children: Virginia, Margaret, Jean, Donna, Shirley, Billie, and Alan.
By 1930, Raymond, then 22 years old, worked as a weaver in a woolen mill and lived with his brother Phillip and wife at 116 Edison St. In Portland, OR. On 8 Aug 1933 he began work in the weaving department at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill in Salem, Oregon.
In 1940, Raymond and his family resided on Cross Gravel Rd. in East Stayton. He continued his work as a weaver at the woolen mill in Salem, earning $600 that year. The family rented their home for $9.00 a month. At that time, Raymond was 33 years old, married, and had five daughters.
Raymond’s World War II draft registration card described him as having a dark complexion, standing 5’10” tall, weighing 156 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair.
By 1950, Raymond still worked as a weaver. He was 42 years old, married, with six children. The family lived on a farm off the cut-off from Fern Ridge Rd. in East Stayton. During the last week of March 1950, census data recorded that he worked 40 hours. In 1951, the family moved to Salem, and Raymond retired from the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill in 1961.
