Paul Koppe worked as a wool dresser at TKWM from 1900-1905 and again in 1909 along with other Koppe family members.
Paul Koppe was born on October 19, 1884, in Brownsville, Oregon, to Emil and Augusta Koppe. By 1900, at the age of 15, Paul lived in his father’s household and worked as a wool dresser at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. In 1910, Paul, then 26, resided in Eugene, Oregon, with his father and worked as a weaver in the family-owned Eugene Woolen Mill.
Paul’s son, Paul Jr., was born on September 19, 1917, in Eugene. At the time, Paul’s father was the foreman at the woolen mill, and his mother was a homemaker. Paul’s World War I draft registration card, dated 1918, recorded him as a 34-year-old residing at 464 E. 8th Street in Eugene, employed by Eugene Woolen Mills. His physical description noted that he was tall with a medium build, brown hair, and blue eyes.
By 1920, Paul was still living in Eugene, working at the woolen mill, and was married to Grace Koppe. A decade later, in 1930, Paul was 45 years old, living in Eugene with his wife and son, and listed as the proprietor of the woolen mill. In 1940, Paul and his family continued to reside in Eugene, where he worked at the woolen mill.
Paul’s World War II draft registration card described him as 6 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds, with a light complexion, brown hair, and hazel eyes. By 1950, at the age of 65, Paul was still a part owner of the woolen mill, living with his wife Grace in Eugene. He had been in the woolen mill business for 40 years and served as president of the Eugene Woolen Mill until his retirement in 1950.
Paul Koppe passed away on July 20, 1970, in Stayton, Oregon, from terminal bronchial pneumonia. He was buried in West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene, Oregon. His wife, Grace, passed away in 1973 and was buried alongside him. |
