Elvern Hart worked as a weaver for TKWM from 1928-1930. Brother Ronald also worked for the mill.
Elvern W. Hart was born 1 Oct 1912, in Gales Creek, Oregon, to Willie and Adelade (Addie) Hart. He was the second youngest in a family of six children. His father worked as a laborer for a water pipe company.
In 1920, the family lived in Portland, Oregon, where father Willie worked at a woolen mill, and Elvern’s older sisters Gretchen and Evelyn were employed as weavers.
By 1928, Elvern was 15, and the family had moved to the Salem area. He and his brother found work as weavers at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. The family operated a truck farm near West Stayton through the early 1930s. Only the three youngest children were left at home: Ronald, Elvern, and Merle.
The family moved south to Santa Ana, California where the brothers found work at the Santa Ana Woolen Mill. On 9 Oct 1937, Elvern married Opal M. Anderson in Los Angeles County, California. By 1940, they lived in Santa Ana, California, with their infant son, Larry. Elvern worked as a loom fixer at the Santa Ana Woolen Mill, as did his brother Ronald.
During World War II, Elvern served in the Navy from 12 Sep 1942 to 10 Sep 1945. On his return he went back to work as a loom fixer for the Santa Ana Woolen Mill. His military registration card captured interesting details about his physical appearance. He was recorded to have a height of 5 ft. 4 in. and weight of 106 pounds. His complexion was light, and he had brown hair and brown eyes.
By 1950, Elvern still lived in California and worked as a textile worker. He had two children, Larry and Darryl.
Elvern died 14 July 1981, in Orange County, California. At the time of research, no obituary or cemetery record could be located. |
