On 8 Sep 1923, William married Lucille Fleetwood in Salem, Oregon. At the time, he was 21 years old, and Lucille was 20. Their union lasted three years, ending in divorce on 8 Sep 1926. By then, both were residing in the greater Portland area. William had left TKWM for work at the Washougal Woolen Mill before 1926.

In 1930, William lived on Lois St. in Washougal, Washington, where he continued his work as a weaver. A physical description provided in his 1942 World War 2 draft registration stated he was 5’7” tall, weighed 145 lbs., had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, and was bald. He also had a notable scar from a stomach operation.

William remarried on 19 Nov 1932, in Stevenson, Washington. His bride Bessie Mae Herrick was a 27-year-old laundry worker and widow. He was 30 years old at the time.

William died on 10 May 1981 in Redding, California, at the age of 78. His remains were cremated at Redding Cemetery but not interred. According to his obituary, William dedicated 42 years to his profession as a weaver and retired from Pendleton Mills, which owned the Washougal mill.
