Emelie “Amy” Hill Wright worked in the finishing department from 1913 through at least 1915 at TKWM.
She was born 19 Nov 1875 in New York, NY to parents Constantine and Mary Barbara (Moeller) Hill. Her sister Kate was also born in New York. By age 5 the family had started to come west and were living in Longmont, Boulder, CO in 1880. Her brothers William and George were born in Colorado.
Amy was married in 1894 at the age of 19 according to the 1900 census record. Her husband was Joseph Everett Wright from Missouri. No marriage record has been found. By 1895 Amy & Joseph had come to Oregon. Their daughter Alpha Harriet Wright was born in Albany, Linn County, Oregon the 17 Oct 1895. Joseph enlisted in the 4th Calvary on 9 Mar 1899.
By 1900 Amy has returned to Denver, CO. with her young daughter. Amy’s parents were also living in Denver at this time. She is listed as married but Joseph is still in the calvary and not discharged until 1902.
Joseph & Amy returned to Oregon sometime after he was released from service. By 1910 Joseph, wife Amy and daughter Alpha were living at 1453 Mill St in Salem, OR.
In December 1912 a marriage certificate was issued to J Everette Wright and Amy E Wright in Salem, Marion co, OR. It lists this as the second marriage for both of them. He is a painter, and she is a housekeeper.
A 1913 Salem city directory lists Mrs. Amy E Wright as a finisher at TKWM Co. Joseph, Amy and Alpha are residing at 1453 Mill St.
A 1915 Salem city directory lists Mrs. Amy E Wright as a finisher at TKWM. She is still residing at 1543 Mill St with her daughter Alpha. She and Joseph have apparently split again as he is rooming at 1311 N 4th St in Salem.
Joseph married Laura Mae Butler around this time. They had a son in August of 1916. Amy never remarried.
The 1920 census lists Amy as head of the family. Her daughter Alpha and her sister Katie Hill were living with her at 1453 Mill St. By 1921 Amy and Alpha had moved to a home at 1230 N Liberty in Salem.
Amy’s daughter Alpha married in 1922 and moved to Portland with her husband Myles Benjamin Young.
By 1930 Amy was living with them in Portland and remained with them until her death at Emanuel Hospital 28 Jun 1945. She was laid to rest at the Riverview Abbey Mausoleum and Crematory in Portland, OR. |
