Dimick was born April 10, 1790 in Connecticut. He married his third wife, Laura Ann (Louisa) Pegborn (Pegburn), a woman about 22 years his junior, in April of 1828 in Lorain Ohio.1 Augustus fathered 10 children, including sons George Washington Dimick and J.B. Dimick who by 1878 had taken over the ownership of much of the original land claim.1
A.R. Dimick is noted for bringing potato seeds for “early or shaker blue” potatoes from Michigan and planting them throughout Northern Marion County. They were nicknamed “Dimick Potatoes.”[3]
The Willamette Heritage Center has a copy of genealogical materials related to the Dimick Family, put together in 2003 by Christie Wyman (2006.024.0001) in our special collections.
