Volunteer Darrel today finished indexing the Daue Collection (1983.043), which contains a wide variety of ephemera from the Salem area in the early 20th century. One tidbit of information he found in folder 11.2 is a carbon paper copy of an 81 page bill for an city ordinance to create the Bureau of Fire Prevention which would enforce all laws related to:
- The prevention of Fires;
- The storage and use of explosives and inflammables;
- The installation and maintenance of automatic and other fire alarm systems, and fire extinguishing equipment.
- The maintenance and regulation of fire escapes;
- The means and adequacy of exit in case of fire from factories, schools, hotels, lodging houses, asylums, hospitals, churches, halls, theatres, amphitheatres, and all other places in which numbers of persons work, live or congregate, from time to tome, for any purpose;
- The investigation of the cause, origin, and circumstances of fires.
The unsigned bill is dated 1933.
