Casamiro “Cassie” or “Cass” Fimby was born 4 March 1887 in Napa, CA to George and Maria Trinidad [Garcia] Fimby. He was one of 13 children born to the couple. Both parents were descendants of California’s early Spanish and Mexican settlers, also referred to as Californios. He attended school in Napa with his siblings until the 5th grade.  

In 1888, his father lost both hands in a hunting accident. The community rallied around the family, holding benefit performances with Vaudeville performers. This ignited a passion in Cass for theatre which he indulged in for a few years before marriage. After his father’s accident and subsequent death, it took everyone in the Fimby family working to make ends meet. At age 13, Cass took a job in the Napa Woolen Mills with his brother Levi and sister Pastora. He was a spool filler.  

In 1910, when brother Levi and sister Pastora moved to the Portland area for jobs at the newly built Portland Woolen Mills, Cass found himself primary support for his mother and younger brothers. After a brief stint working behind the scenes in the theater as a scene lifter, he married Carolina E. Ferrari on 18 Apr 1913. The couple moved north for more steady work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill in Salem, OR where Cass’s brother and sister had relocated in 1912. Cass joined his brother Levi in the carding department. They did not remain long, returning to California by 1918 for the birth of their daughter Henrietta. 

Cass found a job at the Navy Yard on Mare Island, as a riveter. He registered for the WWI draft but was granted exemption due to his work in the Naval Yard. He worked at this job until his retirement. Cass died 12 Aug 1959 in Napa, California. He was cremated and ashes interred in Tulocay Garden Mausoleum. At the time of death he was 72 years old, and a member of Napa Aerie of Eagles and the Retired Civil Service Employees Association. 

Wife Carrie died 29 Dec 1974 in a Salt Lake City, UT hospital. She had been a widow for fifteen years. She was cremated and entombed with Cass in the Tulocay Garden Mausoleum, Napa, CA.
