The 100th anniversary of the sternwheeler “City of Salem” was celebrated by the Salem Stamp Society in 1986 with this commemorative card (X2014.003.0001). The envelope (shown upper left) has an illustration of the sternwheeler and the commerative postmark. The interior card (shown lower right) gives information about travel on the “City of Salem” including departures and arrivals at different ports on the Willamette and on the reverse, costs for passengers in 1886. It would cost you $1.00 to travel from Portland to Salem. Meals were $0.50 and a stateroom was a $1.00.
