Life Story
|
Charles Borneman worked for TKWM from 1931-1952. He was a weaver, designer, and foreman.
Charles Arthur Borneman was born 22 Mar 1883 in Delaware, Ohio. His family later moved to Springfield, Illinois and eventually settled in California in 1906.
Charles lived in Roseville, CA until his marriage. On 28 Feb 1924, he married Ella Kerley [Rodeman] in Marysville, Ca. The couple resided in Yuba City, CA, and had no children. Their marriage was announced in the newspaper, highlighting that Charles, the manager of the Brunswick Billiard Parlor, and Ella F. Kerley [Rodeman] of Yuba City were united in marriage at the home of the bride’s parents, with Rev. B.F. Butts officiating.
After their marriage, Charles and Ella planned to make their home in Roseville, where Charles was engaged in business. Ella had many friends from her time working at the S.G. King Dry Goods store. The wedding was attended by close relatives and friends, including the bride’s aunt and niece from Eugene, OR Mrs. J.H. Dumphrey and Mrs. F.L. Hill.
The couple moved to Salem, Oregon around 1930 or 1931. Charles was hired by the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill in October 1931 and went to work in the weaving department. His World War II draft card described him as 5’6” tall, weighing 155 pounds, with a ruddy complexion, gray hair and blue eyes.
Charles died on 31 Jan 1952 in Salem at the age of 68. At the time of his death, he was a foreman and designer at Kay Woolen Mills, where he had worked for 21 years. He passed away at Salem Memorial Hospital after an illness of three days, with the cause of death being arteriosclerosis of the kidneys and unresolved pneumonia. His wife, Florence, died the following year on 4 May 1953. |
