Job(s) Weaver
Story Charles Graves Kingston worked at TKWM as a weaver as early as 1905 until 1910.

Charles G. Kingston was born on 1 Feb 1888 in McCoy, Polk County, OR. to Paul Kingston, an Irish immigrant, and his wife Emma.   Paul was a railroad section boss.

Charles was working as a weaver for TKWM by 1905 and in 1908, he married his co-worker and spooler, Anna Carline Abraham.  The couple had their first child, Ross, in 1909 while still living in Salem.  In 1910, Charles sought a better job in Portland when he became a streetcar conductor while living with his brother William.

Anna remained in Portland and most likely had help from Charles’ mother Emma.  However, she didn’t need help for long as the family was together again by 1911 and living at 71 Highland W in Portland.  Charles was a carman for the Portland Railway, Light and Power Company.

By 1917, Charles had joined the Southern Pacific Railway company and was living with his family in Sparks, NV.  However, in early 1919, Anna passed away in Sparks.  Charles returned with his children to a home at 1210 Missouri Ave in Portland where he may have been able to get help with the kids from Fredrick and his family that lived about a mile away.

In 1921, Charles, at age 33, married Agnes Wiltsey Wood.  This was a second marriage for both, and they had one child together, Charles Jr.  The couple remained in Portland raising the four children while Charles worked as a railroad conductor.

Charles retired in 1955 after More than 30 years with the Portland & Seattle Railroad Co.  He died at age 83 on 28 Jan 1972 at his residence; 3725 NE 16th.  He was survived by his wife Agness, sons Ross and Charles Jr; daughters Mildred Pruitt and Emma Dower; and sister Bertha Farr.
