Story            Clyde Picha worked for TKWM from 1930 through about 1962 as a mechanic and picker.

Clyde was born in 18 Nov 1908 in Superior, WI to Frank and Hattie PichaHe was the couple’s second childFather Frank worked on the coal docks on the Lake SuperiorBy 1920 Frank and family had moved on the Home Toole, MT to try their hand ranching on a stock farm.   Clyde was about 12 and had three siblings by then. In 1926, the Picha family moved to the Eola area, west of Salem. On 29 Jul 1929 Clyde married Dollie Richter in Polk County, OR. He had begun work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill by that point in time.

According to 1930 Federal Census records, Clyde was a mechanic at TKWM, and he and Dollie owned their own home at 317 S. 22nd in Salem, OR. Dollie’s brother Chester boarded with them. By 1940, Clyde was a machine operator at TKWM, and the family had moved to the family farm in Eola, closer to Clyde’s parents Frank and Hattie.

Clyde left TKWM when it closed in 1962. He continued to farm in what is now called the Oak Grove area of West Salem. He passed away on 14 Sep 1984 and Dollie joined him less than a year later. They are interred at Restlawn Memory Gardens, West Salem, OR.
