Story  Daisy Boon worked as a specker for TKWM, possibly from the mill’s opening in 1890 through late 1892.

Little is known about the specifics of Daisy Boon’s life because of her tragic early death. She was born in Oregon on 12 Aug 1873 to Henry D. and Duenne Boon. Her brother, Emmett, was two years older and worked at TKWM also. She had two younger sisters, Cora and Shella and a younger brother, Claude.

Daisy’s father died in Jan 1888 when she was just 14 and her mother Duenne was left to raise the children.  Within six months, there was a sheriff’s sale of the family’s property to pay obligations.

The two oldest children, Daisy and Emmett, found work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. Daisy was 17 years old. Sadly, death struck the family again with youngest sister Cora’s accidental death in July 1891 followed closely by mother Duenne on 23 Mar 1892. Following their mother’s death, the court appointed a guardian for the remaining minor children. At this point, Daisy was quite ill with tuberculosis and in the care of Mrs. Salmon who lived on Asylum Ave. She died on 16 Jan 1893 at the age of 19 and was buried in the Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
