This is an example of one of the cards found in the old Marion County Historical Society biographical card catalog. When someone comes to the research library looking for someone with ties to Marion County, Oregon this is one of the first places we look. Volunteers at the museum have been keeping track of individuals through this card catalog for years. You can find everything from Census records to newspaper clippings like this one. Here is the transcription below:
Doty-Stone
At the residence of Hugh Harrison, near Jefferson, on February 28, by Rev. F.H. Calder, Miss Helen Stone and Mr. Norris Doty, both of Marion County. Mr. Doty is one of the prosperous young men of the south part of the county, and a man of the best habits. Miss Stone was a favorite with all who knew her—one of the leading young ladies of Jefferson society. A more promising couple it would be hard to find. They took this noon train for Portland, where they will spend a few days of their wedding tour, thence to California, where they will spend some time before returning home to real life.
The markings on the card denote that it was copied from the Oregon Daily Statesman Newspaper (one of two in Salem during the time) and published March 8, 1889. The article can be found on page 8, column 3.
