Emil Norman Allport was born 23 Mar 1906 in Salem, OR to Norman L. and Augusta [Donaldson] Allport. He was one of ten children born to the couple. At the time of his birth father Norman worked for the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. Then in 1910 they moved to Eugene to start a family business that was short-lived. By 1911 they had returned to Salem and the Woolen Mill. 

In 1920 they family moved to Provo, Utah where Father Norman took a job as foreman of the Knight Woolen Mill. Emil and brother Carl worked in the mill along with their father. He remained in Provo until summer of 1923 when he returned to Salem and the carding department at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill.  

In 1925 Emil was introduced to the printing trade by an uncle, Allard Conger. He moved to Portland to learn the trade and remained in this vocation until retirement.  

Emil married Lucille Marie Hutchins on 31 Dec 1929 in Portland, OR. They would become the parents of three children: Joyce, Joann, and Larry.  

His WW2 draft registration gives a physical description of him at age 32. His height was 5’8 and his weight 145 lbs. His complexion was freckled, his hair brown, and eyes brown as well. He worked for Conger Printing Co. At the time of registration 16 Oct 1940 in Portland, OR. 

Emil and Lucille lived at 7605 NE Multnomah in Portland until retirement. Emil died 6 May 1965 in Portland, OR a result of severe pulmonary emphysema. Wife Lucille followed 11 Nov 1968. Both were cremated with ashes interred in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum in Portland.
