Esther Antrican worked for three months at TKWM as a weaver in 1940, while her husband was hospitalized.
Esther Alida Olson was born 10 Jan 1906 in Warren, OR to Nels Paul and Martha Christina Olson.
Esther married Ed Antrican on 7 Oct 1930 in Vancouver, WA. They would be the parents of one son, Donald Jr. Born in 1932. The same year, a friend of Ed’s offered him work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill. The job opening was in the spinning department. He then transitioned to the weaving department and worked as a loom fixer until 1941. He was hospitalized several times in 1940 for what was later determined to be an allergy to the oil used in the machinery.
Husband Ed switched to construction work and was one of the workmen to help build Camp Adair which was being built in rural Polk County off Hwy 99W. After this, Ed was called into service to WW2.
After Ed’s return from war, the couple moved back to the Eola area in Polk County. He worked as a cattle buyer. Then in 1950, the family moved to the Pringle area of South Salem. Ed continued to purchase and raise cattle for sale. Then in 1962 he switched occupations and took work at Salem Sand & Gravel Co. as a laborer and truck driver. During this period Esther worked as a cook for Fairview Hospital. They worked these jobs until retirement in the late 1970s. Then moved to Windsor Island Rd. In the Keizer area.
Ed died 7 July 1985 in Marion County, OR and was buried in Restlawn Cemetery in West Salem. Esther remarried 10 Nov 1985 to Paul Holloway. Prior to her death she was a member of First Christian Church. Esther died 12 Mar 1993 in Salem Hospital of congestive heart failure. She was buried at Restlawn Cemetery with her husband Ed. |
