Eury E Howell was born on 6 Jan 1867 in Viney Grove, Arkansas to Squire Davis and Martha Crawford Howell. He traveled by ox team to Oregon at the age of two years old. Upon arriving in Oregon, the Howell family settled in the Oregon City area.
In 1889, Eury was boarding with his father and working as a dresser at the Oregon City Woolen Mill. He then moved to Salem to work at the TKWM in 1890 for a short time. He married Fannie Titus of Scio, in 1896 and the couple had two children. After his marriage, the couple returned to Oregon City where Eury worked in the Oregon City Woolen Mill.
