StoryĀ  Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Fred Boedigheimer worked for TKWM from around 1932 through 1938. He was born on 30 Jul 1895 in Sublimity where he lived most of his life.Ā Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Fredā€™s father Ignatius (I J) was originally from Minnesota but relocated to Oregon to join many other extended Boedigheimer family members. He was in Sublimity by 1889 in time to provide sawn timbers for the original St Boniface Church which is still in use today. I J married Hellen (Ella) Smith in the church on 9 Oct 1894 and Fred was born 30 Jul 1895.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  By 1900 the couple settled in Stayton to farm. I J and Ella rented at first but eventually owned a farm near Stayton. Fred was followed by twelve siblings, all born and raised in Stayton.Ā Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  We can be certain that Fred helped around the farm while growing up, but he also took odd jobs with the county road crews and hunted gophers, turning in their hides for a government bounty.Ā Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  In 1917, Fred was drafted for WW1 and assigned to the 75th Inf Regiment. The Regiment was constituted on 10 Jul 1918 at Camp Lewis, WA as a part of the 13th Inf Div. The Regiment was never deployed overseas and was disbanded on 27 Feb 1919. That is not to say that Fred was released at that time. He may have been transferred to another unit.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Fred was back living with his family by 1920 and working as a weaver along with his 20-year-old sister Ida. They most likely worked at the woolen mill in Stayton. 1928, we see Fred and five of his siblings working at the Western Woolen Mill (later known at the Paris WM). The siblings were Carl (loom fixer), Helen (weaver), Leo (dresser), Peter (dresser) and William (filling carrier).Ā Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Fred spent some time in Salem but claimed to still live in Stayton. 1932 is the first time he is shown to be working at TKWM. Fred never married and may have had an unsettled personal life. Between 1925 and 1939, he was arrested several times in Salem for public drunkenness. Fred does not appear in the 1934 Salem City Directory but shows in the 1935-1938 editions once again working as a weaver at TKWM. At this point, we lose track of Fred until his death. Fred never married and passed away on 10 Sep 1968 after having been in nursing home care since 1960. He is buried at Sublimityā€™s Saint Boniface Cemetery.Ā
