Life Story |
Fred Henry Meyer worked for the Thomas Key Woolen Mill in 1900 as a spinner. His sister, Marguerite Meyer and his brother-in-law Daniel Perry Wright were also working at the mill in 1900. They were all living together in Dallas, OR at that time.
Fred was born 24 Feb 1881 in Albany, Linn, Oregon. His parents were William F. and Henrietta (Mineko) Meyer. His father was an Oregon pioneer and Civil War veteran. He had four siblings; Mary E (Meyer) Walker, Lena (Meyer) Wright, Marguerite (Meyer) Yeaton, and Seymour H Meyer.
The 1910 census has a single man named Fred Meyer rooming in Portland. The birth date is off but it may be him because this Fred Meyer is working as a candy maker. This was in line with Fred’s occupation for the remainder of his life.
Fred married Anna Emelia Hanson, a widow with a son Stanley Alexander Bell. They married sometime after her first husband’s tragic death. He was drowned in a fishing accident in Astoria in 1906, leaving Anna and their young son Stanley.
In 1917-1918 Fred and Anna are living in Portland. He was a restaurant proprietor at Columbia Beach in Portland. He continues in that line of work the rest of his life. In the 1920 census he was manager of a soft drink company and the 1930 census has him as proprietor of a confectionary in Portland. Fred and Anna were retired by 1940.
Fred passed away on 18 Jul 1940 in Portland, OR. His wife Anna remarried a man by the last name of Swint. She passed away 2 Feb 1966 in Portland, OR and was buried in Rose City Cemetery. |
