Hulda was born in25 Apr 1890 in Nebraska to George M and Clara O. [Hubrich] Zwicker. She was one of eleven children born to the couple. The family came to Oregon by 1892 and settled in NE Salem off 25th St., an area known as Dutchtown. When she began working at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill in 1907, she moved closer to the Mill and boarded at 2582 Lee St. with her sister Augustus. Hulda worked in the weaving department while Augustus worked as a dyer. 

Hulda married Archie Shrum 12 June 1910 in Salem, OR. They were the parents of 6 children. The couple married in the home of Hulda’s brother Otto. The groom’s family lived in Idaho. The newly married couple would live on a farm south of Salem on the River Road. Hulda continued to work off and on throughout their marriage. By 1930 the couple had moved to Washougal, WA to work in the Washougal Woolen Mill. Archie was a weaver as well. In 1940, Hulda went back to work as a weaver as well. 

Hulda died 4 Apr 1957 in the Portland Metro area. She was buried at Skyline Memorial according to the funeral notice printed in the Oregonian newspaper.
