Ida Campbell was born 17 Sep 1872 in Wellington, Canada to parents Richard and Martha Ann [Barber] Campbell, one of eight children. The family immigrated to the United States when Ida was 17 years old, settling in Salem, Oregon, by 1891.

In 1895, at age 22, the Marion County census Ida as a millworker living in her father’s household. On 4 Nov 1895, Ida married fellow millworker Lewis W. Pickard in Salem. By 1900, the couple resided in a boarding house at 320 Chemeketa St., owned by the McGuire family.

In late 1899, Ida’s sister Leslie became critically ill, and despite efforts to restore her health, she died in February 1900. Prior to her death, Ida another sister Mabel and their parents accompanied Leslie to Sisson California near Mount Shasta, hoping that the mountain air and change in climate would restore her health.

On 20 Oct 1904, Ida left her husband, who filed for divorce in Feb 1906. She moved to California, married Charles Marson, and after his death in April 1912, married Edward Erickson, a Swedish native and railroad construction superintendent.

By 1920, Ida and Edward lived on east 24th St. In Oakland, California, where Edward worked as a foreman for a construction company. By 1930, they still resided on 24th St., owned their home valued at $35,000, and Edward worked for a paving company. They retired and moved to Soquel, Santa Cruz County, by 1931, where Ida’s brothers Harvey and George also lived.
