Ira Rundle worked as a dyer at TKWM from around 1934 through at least 1947.
He was born 12 Dec 1874 in Crawford County, IL to Albert and Mary Rundle. Brother Marlin was born a year later. Sadly, Mother Mary died in 1880. Ira married Sedalia Tharp at age 21 in Lawrenceville, IL where he worked as a common laborer. The couple’s first four children were born here, Concheta, Ruby, and twins Floyd and Lloyd. Ira decided to quit farming and move the family to Oregon between 1902 and 1910. His grandfather Simon Rundle and other family members had emigrated to Oregon in the 1890s.
1910 found the young family living in Dallas, OR where Ira worked in a sawmill. Then they moved to Coos County between the years of 1910 and 1913, where Ira’s last son Joe was born. 1920 census records indicate that the family returned to the Willamette Valley, West Rickreall where they rented a farm. By 1924, Ira gave up farming for good and moved to Salem where he worked for the Oregon Pulp and Paper Mill for four years. He also took odd jobs around town. The family owned a house at 555 S. 15th St. In Salem. By 1934, Ira had found work at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill as a dyer. He remained there for 13 years.
He passed away on 1 Aug 1949 in Salem, at the age of 74. He is buried at Belcrest Memorial Park. Wife Sedalia moved to Southern California to be closer to her youngest son Joe. She died there on 24 Jun 1963, at the age of 87. |
