Jesse Hart worked for TKWM from 1920-1932 in various positions such as a loom fixer and weaver.
Jesse Newton Hart was born on 8 Feb 1903 in Russell, Kansas, to Joseph and Viola Mae [Pritchard] Hart. He was one of five children. The family relocated to Oregon in 1908, settling in The Dalles before moving to Salem. By age 16, Jesse worked as a loom fixer at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill while living with his family on South 18th Street.
On 27 Oct 1928, Jessie married Leona Jones in Eugene, Oregon. He was 25, and Leona was 16. The couple lived in Salem, where Jesse continued working at the woolen mill. Over the years they rented various homes, including on Ferry Street and Market Street, raising daughters Billie and Roberta. Tragically, on 7 May 1940, they lost an infant daughter, Greta Mae. Jesse and Leona divorced on 27 May 1941.
According to his World War 2 draft registration, Jesse stood 5’8” tall, weighed 168 pounds, and had a ruddy complexion, red hair, and blue eyes. He also had a slight limp in his right leg.
Jesse Hart passed away from a brain tumor on 4 Apr 1949, at Salem Memorial Hospital, aged 46. He was buried in City View Cemetery in Salem. His former wife, Leona, remarried Lyle A. Hall in 1950 and died in a car accident on 2 Jan 1964, in Newport, Oregon. |
