Earl Fox worked for the TKWM from February 1941 to March 1942 in the Picker House. His father Fred and brother Glenn also worked for the mill at various points in time.
Earl William Fox was born on 7 Aug 1912 in Rochester, New York to Frederick W. and Grace [Brink] Fox. He attended public school through the third year of high school. He came to Oregon in 1913 with his family. At age 17, his family owned a berry farm in Chemawa where Earl worked alongside family members.
He married Charlotte C. Culver on 7 Oct 1936 in Vancouver, WA. Both bride and groom were from Marion County, OR. A daughter was born to the couple on October 20th. The couple later divorced.
On 30 Mar 1940 he married divorcee Marguerite Clark Ambrose, the mother of two children. The couple were residents of Salem, OR but married in Salmon Creek, WA. The local newspaper reported the following:
“Friends have received word of the marriage of Mrs. Marguerite Ambrose, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J.W. Clark, to Mr. Earl W. Fox, son of Mr. And Mrs. Fred Fox which took place on March 30 in Salmon Creek, Washington. The wedding was solemnized by Rev. J.D. Dunkelberger. Mrs. And Mrs. Maurice Clark accompanied the couple. A dinner was given at the home of the bride’s parents after the wedding.”
Earl’s WW2 draft registration card dated 16 Oct 1940 gave his physical description as follows: Height 5’8”, Weight 145 lbs, Light complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair. The card also recorded his employer as Hazel Dell Dairy and residence as Route 6, Box 587 Salem, OR.
In 1942 the family moved to Portland where Earl worked in the shipyards. Following the war, the couple moved to Redmond, OR where they lived for 30 years. Earl worked as a mill worker for Ponderosa Moulding and an independent hauler for Bordens/Everhard’s Dairy. After he retired in 1981, they moved to Woodburn.
Earl died on 24 August 1999 in Woodburn, OR. His wife Marguerite died on 12 March 2003. Both were cremated and interment took place at Belle Passi Mausoleum in Woodburn. |
