This new acquisition is the first we’ve seen of the storied Jory Brothers who settled about six miles south of Salem. While the Willamette Heritage Center has a thick biography file documenting the Jory Family’s history, we have few materials related specifically to the family. We were thrilled when we were contacted by the folks down at the Benton County Elections and County Clerks Offices about the photograph.
You’ve also put together a great bit of history: http://capitaltaps.blogspot.com/2011/05/taste-dirt-learn-about-jory-soil.html
Glad you like the piece on Jory soil!
Readers of drinking age may be interested in the event on August 2nd at Willamette Valley Vineyards (Source link no longer available). A Jory family member will talk family history, a geologist will talk soil, and wine samples will talk terroir.
It’s great for the very few Jory’s that we are in Louisiana to see this. Awesome!
Hello from the Jorys in Louisiana!
