Pearl Phernetton briefly worked as a weaver from 1905 to 1910 at TKWM along with sister Dora and brother Edward. Two other Phernetton siblings would also work for the Mill.
Pearl Phernetton was born 15 Aug 1883 in Knapp, Wisconsin to Edward and Emma [George] Phernetton. She was one of five children born to the couple. The family moved to Oregon when Pearl was fourteen years old. After the desertion of their father in 1902, Pearl and her sister Dora took work in the weaving department of the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill to help support their family. Brother Clyde soon joined them. Based on available records, Pearl worked at the mill from 1905 until her marriage in 1910.
She married Charles W. Olinghouse on 8 Jun 1910 in Salem. They were the parents of two children, Lilley and Orville. Husband Charles was a logger when they first married, then the family settled on farmland off Cow Creek in Douglas County, OR. They moved to Chico, California in the 1940s after Charles retired. He died 5 December 1947 at age 69. His body was brought back to Salem for burial. Pearl died 17 Nov 1964 in Roseville, CA. She was buried alongside Charles in City View Cemetery, Salem, OR. |
