This ticket (WHC 63.1.1.8) made us giggle a little bit today. Aside from the wonderful irony that boys are not admitted to a program at the Young Men‘s Christian Association (YMCA), we are wondering what parts of “the Prevention of Contagion” may have been unsuitable for boys in the audience.
According to one source, Dr. William M. Welch was a Diagnostician and Consultant to the Philadelphia Hospital for Contagious Diseases.
The only YMCA we could discover using Google that was located at 15th and Chestnut Streets, was the YMCA in Philadelphia, PA. We suspect that this ticket originated there. Somehow it made it from Philadelphia to the collections of Renska L. Swart of Salem.
