This Ross family photo shows Joseph Benjamin Ross, his wife Lillie Mae Ross and their son Elmer Ross with their dog “Snipe” in front of their home in Wheatland, Oregon in 1899. Wheatland was located near the Willamette River on the west side of the Matheny or Wheatland Ferry landing in Yamhill County, Oregon. Oregon Geographic Names claims it gained its name by being the shipping point for tons of wheat harvested in the area. The community had a post office from 1867 -1903.
