StoryĀ  William Hinz worked for TKWM from about 1920 through 1947.Ā  His younger brother Charles also worked at the mill from 1923 ā€“ 1938.Ā Ā

William Emil Hinz was born on 4 Oct 1888 in Willow Lake, MN to Robert and August Hinz. William was the third of seven children born to the couple.Ā Ā

Around 1912, Williamā€™s family moved from Minnesota to Salem.Ā  In the spring of 1915, William applied for a permit to build a single-family home on 20th Street and on the 20th of May that same year, he married bookkeeper Emma Albers. They lived with Williams parents until their house was completed. William joined his brother Charles working for Spaulding Logging Co. Then he briefly worked as an attendant at the Oregon State Insane Asylum. By 1920, he and brother Charles had taken employment at the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill.Ā Ā

William continued to work at TKWM but took a short break in 1928 to work for a cannery in Salem, about the same time brother Charles moved to Portland.Ā  William and Charles returned to TKWM by 1930 and Emma began work for the State. The couple had one daughter, Genevieve.Ā Ā

William ended his time at TKWM in 1948. He died 20 Oct 1962. Emma survived him and died 23 Dec 1990, at the age of 90. Both are interred at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem.Ā  Ā
